Sudden death...heart attack?

We are beside ourselves.  Our perfectly healthy (or so we thought) 9 y/o female cat died suddently Sat night.  I put her down and she ate and drank, then went in to our daughters bedroom with her.  We noticed nothing abnormal.  "TJ" was on the bed responding to our daughter with her normal meow, and a few moments later.....I will describe as our daughter did, since I was in our room ... TJ's hind legs collapsed and she slid off the side of the bed onto the carpeted floor.  She let out some kind of meow and shook. Our daughter grabbed her and ran to our room...she said she could feel her heart beating fast, but by the time she got her to me, TJ was taking her last breaths.  I checked her throat thinking she may have choked, but found nothing....everything happened so fast.  She quit breathing, and I could not feel a heart beat....however, we waited a while to bury her, just in case.  In fact, we were so afraid, we waited until we felt coolness.   She showed NO signs of anything, but looking back now, I remember thinking a few days prior that her face looked fuller.  I am sick over her loss...shocked.  Her coat was beautifully shiney, and she was not overweight.  Inside cat, except, that she did love to sit on the front porch.  She didnt wonder off.  Does this sound like a heart attack?  Did I miss something?  Hope someone has some insight............

We share your grief and shock.  Our beautiful, kind, sensitive tortoise shell 8 year old Cinnamon died in my husbands arms this morning.  She always sleeps right beside him and she made an awful cry and jumped onto his chest and died.  He was and is beside himself.  She was so devoted.  We brought her to the vet and decided against an necropsy but we are getting her cremated.  When we googled this, we found many people with the same story.  Sudden death, no signs of anything amiss.  Like many of you, she is an inside cat.  We are in grief.  So sad to lose such a good friend. No warning.  When I took her from his arms, she was soft and warm and I couldn't believe she was dead.  We cried and cried.  So soft, so beautiful.  We believe it was a heart attack.  We share your grief.

I too, share in your grief and shock.  My handsome Charlie, pictured, just passed on 7/18/2013.  He was giving me headbonks and purring up a storm.  Then went and laid down.  Within an hour he was gone.  He let out a horrible yowl, spasmed, then he was gone.  Rushed him to the 24 hour animal hospital down the street.  The vet, after listening to what happened, said it sounded like Charlie had Cardiomyopathy.

Correction, Charlie passed on the 17th.  I looked at the calendar wrong.

I think it was a heart attack. Sometimes it happens if our pet is healthy and we don't noticed anything abnormal in our pet. I saw these type of cases many times. So don't bother yourself. You didn't miss anything.
