What breed 4 me?
I had a dog as a child - but it was just a dog - in the yard. I've never had a close attachment to a dog. I LOVE to watch the dog shows. I want to WANT a dog. I want to not be afraid of a dog. I want to be able to touch a dog without it jumping on me or licking me in the face. I want an outside guard dog that would also be a loving companion on the deck or porch. I have grandchildren that the dog would need to love. They would certainly love it - as they have an inside shitzhu (sp?). I work outside of the home and I'm usually gone for 9-12 hours per day. However, my husband is in and out. We have a pond. Any ideas? Thanks!

No one has responded to my questions. I'm disappointed! So I'm replying to myself to "bump the thread up" in hopes of getting some responses. Thanks!
So here is what I can tell.
1. You want a good gaurd dog
2. Potentially likes to swim and be outdoors
3. Can be well trained (so he/she wont jump up on you)
Here are my recomendations to consider
Chihuahua - Small, stocky size, apple-shaped head, round, dark eyes, short, pointed muzzle, lively and loyal, cocky and energetic, strong-willed and outspoken, nimble and quick, portable
White Shepherd Dog - Intelligent, hardworking, alert, watchful, sensitive
Wirehaired Dachshund - Persistent, spunky, bold and clever, endearing, dependable, great trackers
Wow, that’s a tough set of traits to match. I personally think a labrador would be perfect. I don’t see how you could go wrong, but then again, there are the fears of all the inbreeding that happens and potential health risks. If you check out the labs history and buy it from a good breeder it can help increase your chances of avoiding the unfortunate health problems and win a awesome dog.

I have been researching the Great Dane. What do you think?
