What kind of Dog Food ?
My dog has some liver issues, just recently his levels were up. He is on
Denamarin for a month. But my question is"Could it be his food and what
kind of food is good for a 2year old with high liver levels.
GRASS AWN INFECTION/WHAT TO DO?
Our little Yorkie mix developed a large abscess in her throat a couple of weeks ago, making it almost impossible for her to swallow food. She was lethargic/sad. Took her to a reputable animal hospital in Denver. They found an abscess in her throat and, upon doing an ultrasound, they found what they're saying is a 7 millimeter-long grass awn (grass seed basically) that somehow worked its way into an area just below her left ear, deep into the tissue.
They partially aspirated fluid and the culture has grown pasteurella multocida bacteria, but the vet suspects there could also be another anaerobe in there that has gone undetected.
We are giving her clindamycin liquid and Baytril (for broad-spectrum treatment).
They also suggested, on the day of the scoping, that we try a surgical removal of the grass awn, but they also warned that it would be a dangerous operation (through her skull/nerves/windpipe, etc., etc.) and that, in any event, they could "manage" it with antibiotics in the absence of such surgery by leaving the grass awn in place, although that wouldn't be their first choice.
Now the vet has changed her tune, telling us that she wants to continue antibiotics for an
additional two weeks and then take her off antibiotics and see what happens. The grass awn could still be harboring bacteria and a re-infection could occur, and this time with more antibiotic-resistant bacteria that would be harder, maybe even impossible, to treat. It's all very scary!
Anyway...I'm posting on this forum to see if anyone else has experienced this because we're hearing from some pet owners in our community who have told us that they have had dogs who have had grass awns left in them and a re-infection never occurred. But some of the online literature seems to suggest that re-infections are likely to occur.
Has anybody else experienced this?
My dog GrufL who is two years old has just been started on Denamarin for
high liver level of 537. Of course I have no clue as to how liver levels get
that high. His vet was not reassuring as to what causes this.
I have noticed since I have put him on Denamrin (1week) his appetite has
decreased some. I am very concerned because he is a very frisky, happy little
Yorkie who weighs only 8.6 lbs. The only thing that I started new was
Comfortis in April. The doctor says no, but I have read that some dogs are
effected by Comfortis. I have stopped this and just keep a flea and tick collar
Can someone tell me how liver levels rise in a dog and would his
appetite decrease being on Denamarin.

Natural anti-inflammatory supplements
My 10-year old belgian malinois is starting to suffer from joint pains brought by arthritis. I know anti-inflammatory and pain medications will now be a start of his "twilight years" but as much as possible I don't want to fill him up with drugs that give more risks and side effects than benefits. I am now looking for natural anti-inflammatory supplements or drugs that can alleviate painful symptoms of arthritis and joint problems.
4th of July

During the beginning of Estrus phase of 9 days when the female dog accepts the male to mate with her, does it take just once or twice for her to become pregnant? Also, the first time was not interrupted but the second time was because we were trying to keep them apart. Is there a chance he could still be pregnant? The male is a few months away from being a year old. Any replies will be appreciated. Thank you.

I have a chiweenie(mix of chihuahua and dachshund) so very cute and thinks she is the boss.Sad to say she has developed a skin problem. My vet said she has Adrenal Reproductive Hormone Imbalance. This has caused her to lose her hair and we are trying everything for her problem. She is on meds. and hydrocortisone lotion and antihistamines. If anyone has a cure .... let me know. I love my little Roxey so much. She is a rescue when she was about 7 months. Franie
