Ahh I found a TIck
I came back from a walk last night and when sitting on my couch I looked down and there was a tick walking on my leg.... "Goose bumps!" Anyway, I figured I would put the word out that in San Francisco it seems like tick season. Remember to keep up with the flea and tick meds, I know I will....
Low Cost Decent Quality Food?
I'm sure this question has been asked about a million times, but I am looking for a dry food to feed my dog, Snoopy - a 7 year old old beagle We are currently feeding him, Natural Balance and although he seems to do alright on it, I am looking for a lower cost food that will produce similiar if not better results. (Snoopy tends to have softer poops on this food) I know all about the junk that is in foods such as Purina, Iams etc..and would love to be able to feed him super quality food such as Innova etc. however, at this time in my life it is just not cost effective.
Does anyone have any suggestions besides telling me I am a bad doggie parent, by not buying top shelf premium food? I have heard about a brand of kibble that is sold at Walmart called Maxximum Nutrition that has received a 3 star rating on the Dog Food Analysis website, is this a decent food to feed them for the time being, at least until we are more settled?
Thanks for any input you may have!
hot & cold nose
I have a 2 year old dog, (mix, vet guessed pit and lab??) am retired on a limited income, so don't go to the vet unless nesessary for Noels health, Ever since I got her (15 months ago, she is about 2 years old now) her nose constantly goes from cold and damp as it should be to worn and dry, back and forth, back and forth, maybe lasting from 1 to 3 days each. She seems to be ok, is this a couse for concern?? Can someone let me know.
Dog with barking problem
Bottom line, my boy Snoopy is a barker. He is always barking and at times it drives me crazy. I know its his way oif talking to me and letting me know he is there, but sometimes it can be a bit much to handle. Can anyone share some advice about how I can let him know that barking is something thats not always a good thing?
NCAA Basketball Tournament with my Dog
Oh boy, today is the day when I sit around and watch basketball with my boy Bobo. I am rooting for the Boston College, but part Bobo thinks they dont have a chance. He is more of a fan of just watching any team on TV. Does anyone else have a dog that watches loves to watch TV? If so, whats their favorite show?

White Turkish Angora
I have a very interesting story about a WHITE TURKISH ANGORA found July 2008 in Regina, Saskatchewan near the Trans Canada Highway.
This kitten was 6 to 8 weeks old when found. At first we just thought it was an odd looking white male kitten. We blended him into our home with our three domestic shorthairs. At about 4 months of age it becamse apparent that this was no ordinary cat. We became aware of the WHITE TURKISH ANGORA breed by accident in late December. We are now convinced that we own a pure bred WHITE TURKISH ANGORA, but have no idea how he ended up on our driveway. We have a couple of thoughts, one is that he escaped from a litter travelling through Canada on the Trans Canada Highway in July of 2008. We live very close to the highway and he was found the day after a wild thunder and hail storm .....could he have escaped during the storm.......and could the owners have thought he didn't survive .....or know exactly whenor where he escaped?
He is a beautiful addition to our family and we love him dearly, but we would like to know how he came to us?
If you have any information or know of anyone I should pass this on to please contact email@example.com
Wee Wee Pads
I have a two year old German Shepherd he came home when he was 8 or 12 wks old, my other dog is small and deaf and uses a Wee Wee Pad so of course when Zach was little it was okay but now he is two and still uses the Wee Wee Pad when he is inside the house with us. The problem is of course that he is too big for the Wee Wee Pads. How can I break him of this habit when the little dog has to use it. My home is not big enough for me to put the pad in another area for the other dog. When he is loose in my enclosed back patio with the other dog I lay down a Wee Wee Pad and he will go to it.
AAARRGG! The Dog Whisperer!!!
Just a quick question... Will your dog watch the 'Dog Whisperer' with you? I watch it strictly for entertainment purposes, and Digger will bark and growl at the TV. It is the same for 'It's Me Or The Dog'... Just wondering if others have this "problem". I think it might be the dogs on the shows.
Very young Abysinnian with CRF
I adopted Elsa in July from the shelter. Apparantly her previous owners dumped her because she had kidney disease.
She was in the hospital for 2 months getting her kidney values down.
I had her since September on KD diet. She's been getting blood tests every few weeks. About a month later, her kidney values started to go up. I started to give sub-cutaneous her fluids 50 mls twice a day for 10 days. She got tested again, and she was the same. We continued, but went down to every other day for 3 weeks. She is now in failure and is being hospitalized and being given fluids intravenously. Her dental hygiene became compromised as a result. She had a very bad case of plaque which wasn't bad a few months ago. The doctor said we shouldn’t anesthetize her to clean her teeth while she is in failure, although not doing so would put more bacteria into her system - a dilemma for sure. I admitted her this morning for aggressive fluids. She had an ultrasound a few months ago, and one kidney was very small, and the other one is dilated, and the urine is always diluted. I don't think she was looking for lymph nodes, though. I've been reading on the disease. Most cats have renal failure in older age - at least 7 years old. This cat is maybe 5 or just below 5 years old. Very young. In Abyssinians, is it common to see this problem in a cat so young as being an inherited problem? Or because of her young age, would you tend to suspect an underlying cause such as diabetes, renal lymphoma cancer, amyloidosis, infectious peritonitis, urinary obstructions, pyelonethritis (although there was no bacteria in the urine), or possible having ingested something toxic when she was much younger? Have you ever heard of kidney transplants in cats? What is anybody's experience with this breed?
