Preventing Problems Caused by Allergies

Introduction

Allergies happen when the body is tricked into thinking that harmless particles are dangerous invaders. The immune system tries to get rid of these allergens by sneezing them out, flushing them out, and/or dislodging them. The best way to prevent allergies is to avoid coming in contact with the particles causing the allergic reaction.

Flea Allergies

Allergies that come from flea bites can cause skin reactions that sometimes can be serious. A good way to prevent this from happening is to get your dog a good flea collar and/or medicine that for preventative care. Usually these medicines are found at your local pet store or your dog’s veterinarian. A simple application behind the neck or sometimes on the back regularly, depending on the medicine, helps to prevent fleas from jumping on your dog.

Hay Fever

Dogs have been known to get hay fever too. A good way to help prevent this is to not go anywhere pollen or certain other allergy symptomatic trees, plants or flowers, even dust live. You will be able to tell if your animal has allergies to a specific plant or flower when they sniff and soon after sneeze. A good way to find out if your breed of dog may tend to be allergic to something is to watch their reactions around certain plants.

Food Allergies

Dogs like humans can get food allergies. Certain types of food allergies can cause reactions such as throwing-up, rashes or even at times itching. How to prevent future occurrences of food allergies is to learn the type of food causing the reaction, and stop feeding your animal that particular food type. For example, if you feed your dog shellfish, and they show signs of an allergic reaction, it is probably because they are allergic to shellfish. It may be hard at first because the type of food is your dog’s favorite, but in the end it will stop allergic reactions from occurring.
