Legg Perthes Disease in Dogs: An Overview

Legg Perthes disease, also known as Legg-Calve-Perthes disease or aseptic necrosis of the femoral head, is a condition in dogs which causes progressive degeneration and abnormal development of the bone tissue around the femoral head and hip joint. In some cases the condition only affects one leg/hip, but in most instances both of the dog's legs/hips are affected.

Treating Legg Perthes Disease in Dogs

Fortunately despite the severity of the condition, successful treatments for Legg Perthes disease in dogs are available. The type of treatment option chosen depends on the severity of the dog’s condition including amount of tissue and bone deterioration around the hip and femoral head, pain, and the dog’s ability to walk and move.
