The Standard Schnauzer, also known as the Schnauzer and the Mittelschnauzer, is a breed of dog in the Working Group. This intelligent dog breed is not only a loyal and watchful family companion, but they have even served as dispatch carriers to the German army and as aides for the Red Cross. The Standard Schnauzer was approved by the AKC in 1991.
Standard Schnauzers are a robust and sturdy dog breed, and should be heavy for its height with lots of muscle and bone. Ideal weight and height ranges vary considerably from one breed club's standard to the next. Male dogs range between 18 and 20 inches high at the withers and generally weigh between 35 and 50 pounds. Female dogs are ideally between 17 and 19 inches high at the withers and generally weigh between 30 and 45 pounds.
The Standard Schnauzer is s sociable, highly intelligent, and alert dog breed. Schnauzers can be entertaining, formidable guards, and great family companions. Properly raised and trained, they are reliable companions with children.
