The Rottweiler, also known as the Rott, the Rottie, and the Weily, is a breed of dog in the Working Group. While the Rottweiler has a reputation as a fierce guard dog, their willing to please attitude has also led to this breed’s popularity as police, therapy, and guide dogs. The Rottweiler was recognized by the AKC in 1931 and AKC approved in 1990.
In the hands of a responsible owner, a well-trained and socialized Rottweiler can be a reliable, alert dog and a loving companion. In general, Rottweilers are fond of children, very devoted, quick to learn, and eager to please. They are typically very bright dogs.
