Introduction

The Boxer breed has a variety of common health issues. Responsible breeders use available tests to screen their stock before breeding, and in some cases throughout the life of the dog, in an attempt to minimize the occurrence of these diseases in future generations.

Common Health Problems

Generally speaking, Boxers are prone to develop the following conditions:

• Cancer
• Heart conditions such as Aortic Stenosis and Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy ("Boxer Cardiomyopathy")
• Hypothyroidism
• Hip dysplasia
• Degenerative myelopathy

Other conditions that may be seen include:

• Gastric dilatation and torsion (bloat)
• Intestinal problems
• Allergies
• Entropion
• Spondylosis deformans, a fusing of the spine
