Appearance
The Affenpinscher has harsh, rough coat and a monkey-like expression--Affe means monkey in German.
Size
The Affenpinscher weighs seven to nine pounds (three to four kilograms) and measures up to 11 inches (24 to 30 centimeters) in height at the withers.
Coat and Color
Its coat is shaggier over the head and shoulders, forming a mane with a shorter coat over the back and hind quarters. It is harsh and wiry in texture. The Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI, World Canine Federation) and United Kingdom breed standards specify that the coat must be black, but the American Kennel Club (AKC) also allows gray, silver, red, black and tan, and belge, a mixture of red, black and white hairs. Other clubs have their own lists of acceptable colors, with black being the preference.
Grooming Tips
Affenpinschers need to be groomed two to three times a week because of their one inch coat.
