The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, also known as the Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, the Wheaten Terrier, and the Wheaten, is a breed of dog in the Terrier Group. This handsome and confident dog breed has a very unique personality. They are alert and energetic, and yet the intelligent Wheaten is also easy to train and frequently used as a working dog. The Wheaten was recognized by the AKC in 1973 and AKC approved in 1983.
The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is a medium sized dog, which ranges on average anywhere from 17 to 19 inches and weighs about 30 to 40 pounds. The dog breed seems to have a square structure and is well built. The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier's hair does not shed like most dogs. Like human hair and Poodle hair, it keeps growing, needing regular trimming, and dropping just a few hairs daily.
