Appearance
Miniature Bull Terriers are exactly what their name states them to be: smaller versions of the standard Bull Terrier. They are small but strong dogs with large, egg-shaped heads. They have unique triangular-shaped eyes that are small but almost always described as piercing. The neck is long and muscular and the chest is broad. They are square in proportion, with a short, strong back that arches over the loin. The tail is low-set, short, and carried horizontally. Like their standard cousins, there are two color varieties of the Miniature Bull Terrier: White and Colored. The White variety may have markings on his head, but nowhere else on the body. Colored Miniatures may come in brindle, black-brindle, red, fawn and white or tricolor.
Size and Weight
The ideal height for an adult Miniature Bull Terrier is between 10 and 14 inches at the shoulder and they can weigh anywhere from 20 to 34 pounds. The proper proportion is square.
Coat and Color
Miniature Bull Terriers have a shiny, short, flat coat that has a hard texture. The skin is pulled tightly over the muscular body. They come in two color varieties: white and colored. White Miniature Bullies may be solid white or have colored markings on the head. No color is permitted anywhere else on the body. The colored variety may be of any color and marking combination.
Grooming Needs
Miniature Bull Terriers are very easy to groom. They only require weekly brushing in order to keep their coat looking shiny and to keep loose hair under control. They do shed heavily in the spring and fall, and brushing will need to occur daily. They don't require frequent bathing, and many owners use a dry shampoo or damp cloth to keep the dog looking and smelling fresh in between baths.
As with all dogs, the Miniature Bull Terrier's ears should be checked weekly for signs of redness and infection. Weekly cleaning with a veterinarian-approved cleanser can keep harmful bacteria from building up. Weekly tooth brushing will keep the teeth and gums healthy and prevent bad breath. Nail clipping may be required if the dog does not wear his nails down naturally.
