The Finnish Spitz, also known as the Finnish Barking Birddog and the Finnish Cock-Eared Dog, is a breed of dog in the Non Sporting Group. This is the national dog of Finland, and their Spitz ancestors are some of the oldest original dog breeds known. The Finnish Spitz dog breed was recognized by the AKC in 1987 and AKC approved in 1999.
The Finnish Spitz dog breed has a typical double coat, which consists of a soft, dense undercoat and long, harsh guard hairs that can measure one to two inches long. The Spitz' coat should be stiffer, denser, and longer on the neck, back, back of thighs, and plume of the tail, while remaining shorter on the head and legs.
