The Scottish Deerhound, also known as the Deerhound, is a breed of dog in the Hound Group. This dog breed is a superior hunting dog, and as a result they were so prized that it was once considered to be a high privilege to own a Scottish Deerhound. For a period of time, the only members of the nobility that were allowed to own this breed were those with the title of Duke, Marquess, or Earl. The Scottish Deerhound was approved by the AKC in 1935.
The Scottish Deerhound is a large dog breed with an extremely friendly nature that needs considerable exercise as a puppy to develop properly and to maintain its health. That does not mean Scottish Deerhounds need a large house to live in. However, they should have regular access to free exercise in a fenced or otherwise safe area.
