The Greyhound, also known as the English Greyhound, is a dog breed in the Hound Group. This breed is most famously known as being the fastest of all dog breeds, but they are also sweet tempered couch potatoes inside the home. The Greyhound is also one of the oldest breeds of dogs known, and for over 4,000 years they have been used not only as hunting dogs but as human companions as well.
Greyhounds are typically a healthy and long lived dog breed, in which hereditary illness is rare. Expected lifespan is around 10 to 12 years. Diseases and disorders common to greyhounds include esophageal achalasia, bloat, and osteosarcoma.
