The American Foxhound is a dog breed in the Hound Group. These dogs are well known for their ability to track a scent and their extremely friendly and affable personality. There are different types of American Foxhounds such as the Goodman, the July, the Penn-Marydel, the Trigg, and the Walker. In recent years there has been an effort in creating a more standard type of American Foxhound.
The legs of an America Foxhound are very long and straight-boned. The Foxhound’s chest is rather narrow. They have a long muzzle, and a large, domed skull. The American Foxhound's ears are wide and low-set. The eyes are hazel or brown, and are large and wide-set. The Foxhound's coat is short and harsh.
The American Foxhound is sweet, kind, loyal and loving at a home. As with all hound dog breeds they need careful training, constant socialization and owners who are willing to give them ample exercise. A bored American Foxhound will find ways to keep themselves entertained and can be very destructive, scratching at doors to tearing apart objects. If routine walks are not an option, access to a secure yard is a good alternative for this breed of dog.
