The Pembroke Welsh Corgi, also known as the Welsh Corgi, the Pembroke, and the Corgi, is a breed of dog in the Herding Group. As one of the two distinct Corgi dog breeds, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, unlike the Cardigan Corgi, naturally has no tail. The Pembroke was recognized by the AKC in 1934 and AKC approved in 1972.
A Pembroke Welsh Corgi is between 10 and 12 inches tall at the shoulders and weighs 24 to 30 pounds. Males weigh about 27 pounds and the females are about 2 pounds lighter. Historically, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi was a dog breed with a naturally short tail. However, due to the advent of docking, the trait was not aggressively pursued by breeders.
