The Bouvier des Flandres, also known as the Flanders Cattle Dog, the Koehond, the Toucherur de Boeuf, and the Vuilbaard, is a breed of dog in the Herding Group. The Bouvier des Flandres has a very strong and large build, but despite their size and weight they are extremely graceful and agile. One of the more famous dogs of this breed was Lucky, who was President Ronald Reagan’s companion. The Bouvier des Flandres was approved by the AKC in the year 2000.
The Bouvier is a powerfully built, compact, rough coated dog of rugged appearance. The Bouvier des Flandres gives the impression of size and strength without clumsiness or heaviness. Perhaps the most notable feature this dog breed is the impressive head which is highlighted by a heavy beard and mustache. The Bouvier des Flandres' ears and tail are sometimes cropped, though several countries have outlawed such practices.
