There are times where you won’t notice a dog has urine marked in your house. Sometimes dogs are doing the urine marking in specific places that you may not smell or notice because the urine marking is so small. Other animals however, can smell the markings of the dog.

Communication is what Urine marking is about. The scent is what other dogs or animals smell to let them know certain things. And some of the time a male dog will mark over where a female dog has urinated to let her know he was there or to let other male dogs know he was there. In this communication, the male dog is allowing other animals to know what is going on. For male dogs urine marking is one of the main forms of communication and they will do it often if they really want other animals to know what they want them to know.

There are times when urine marking is caused by a physical problem. If you notice your dog acting very strange and urine marking in the open often and you are not sure why, it is best to take your dog to see a veterinarian. There could be a problem internally that you were not aware of before that maybe able to be treated.
