Introduction

Disobedient behavior in dogs can be an upsetting situation for both owners and their dogs. This type of unruly behavior can turn a household upside down and sometimes become so severe that the dog has to be removed from the home. If you notice your dog engaging in the following descriptions of disobedient behavior, take action quickly; a vigilant and dedicated owner can put an end to disobedient behavior.

Signs of Disobedience

Dogs which display disobedient behavior are often out of control; they violate a person’s space, the rules of the household, and refuse to follow commands that they have been taught. Disobedient dogs engage in destructive and aggressive behavior. These dogs will often bark, scratch, and even nip for attention. They may be impossible to walk on a leash, constantly pulling, tugging, or straining on the lead. Disobedient dogs will often jump up on people, bark constantly, and destroy objects in the home.

Disobedient dogs are a lot like spoiled children. They are uncontrollable, temperamental, and difficult to manage. People who have dogs which engage in this type of behavior often feel exhausted, frazzled, and frustrated; instead of a close friendship with their dog, the relationship is more of a constant power struggle and there is a continual battle to keep the home from being destroyed.

Obviously this type of behavior is unacceptable. Dogs which develop disobedient behavior often miss out on a close relationship with their human, on fun outings, and just on being part of the family. Unfortunately disobedient behavior often develops as a result of an over indulgent owner, or an owner who does not know how to relate properly to dogs. The good news is that with proper education on both the owner and dog’s part, disobedient behavior can be stopped.

Potential Problems with Disobedient Dogs

Disobedient dogs can often cause damage to the household. They may scratch up doors, tile, and walls. They may tear up or chew on furniture, dig holes around the yard, or knock over and break items in the home. Destructive behavior such as this can cost thousands of dollars of damage.

Disobedient dogs can also be a safety hazard to themselves, people, children, and other pets. These dogs may ingest harmful substances when they are tearing up a house, they can escape from the house and fall into a dangerous situation, and they can hurt themselves if they are in a temperamental mood. Disobedient dogs can also harm people and children by pawing, nipping, and even biting. These dogs are also often overly jealous of other pets, and they will often pick fights with other pets or completely dominate them.

In severe situations, disobedient dogs are removed from their households and placed up for adoption. Dogs which engage in disobedient behavior are very difficult to adopt out, and they may bounce from home to home before they eventually end up in a shelter. Any displays of disobedient behavior need to be taken very seriously. While the potential problems of a disobedient dog can be devastating, this type of behavior can fortunately always be stopped with intensive training and pet owner education.
