Introduction
Puppies and mature dogs both have their pros and cons. If you are thinking about adopting a puppy or dog, here are some considerations that you should keep in mind.
Adopting a Puppy
Puppies often require a lot more work than a mature dog. They usually need to be potty trained, they need behavioral instructions, and they are a lot more energetic. If you are thinking about adopting a puppy, be aware that your new puppy will require a lot of time and attention.
That being said, puppies often fit great into homes with young children or other animals. Puppies can also sometimes be easier to train than older dogs that are set in their ways. Puppies are also often free of a lot of mental and emotional scars that older dogs carry. As such, they are less likely to require a calm environment that older dogs with abusive histories often need.
Adopting a Mature Dog
Mature dogs can fit seamlessly into a home without a lot of work. These dogs do not usually need to be potty trained, and they quickly pick up on the ins and outs of a household. While mature dogs still require attention, they do not require the constant activity and mental stimulation that puppies crave.
On the other hand, adopted mature dogs can carry emotional scars, and if they have been mentally hurt the pet owners will need to work with their mature dog with a gentle hand. These dogs require a calm environment and lots of patience in order to recover from their ordeals. Mature dogs also will not live as long, but many pet owners enjoy the selfless gift of providing a home, and plenty of love, for the remainder of their new mature dog’s years.
