question: are blue eyes in a shih tzu indicative of any health problems or inproper breeding? Help.

Blue eyes in Shih tzu can mean potential health problems, but it can also be a genetic defect that has no health problems.
If the eye is hazy and looks cloudys in some lights it could mean the adult Shih Tzu has cataracts, corneal ulcers, or various forms of inflammation of the clear part of the eye (keratitis).
Blue eyes that persist throughout life can occasionally be found in Shih Tzu. Such blue eyes (actually, often dark or light gray rather than bright blue) are found in blue dogs. Blue Shih Tzu lack a needed color gene for black. Their color is therefore dilute; they also have blue pigment on their muzzles, noses, lips, footpads, and eye rims. Like liver-pigmented dogs (which have light brown eyes and pigment rather than the more common black), blue Shih Tzu are rare, but are perfectly acceptable in the show ring.

YES BLUE EYES IN SHIH TZU'S ARE POSSIBLE...IT IS VERY RARE AND NO THEY ARE NOT AN ISSUE OF CONCERN.. I OWN SHIH TZU'S WITH BEAUTIFUL AQUA BLUE EYES. MY DOGS HAVE NEVER HAD ANY EYES PROBLEMS... THEY ARE JUST AS HEALTHY AS ANY OTHER SHIH TZU. SEE MY WEB PG FOR EXAMPLES OF THE HEALTHY BLUE EYES AS I DO UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS SOME SHIHTZU'S THAT HAVE A CLOUDY NESS COLOR OF BLUE (AND YES CLUDYNESS IS A CAUSE OF CONCERN)

My Shitzu has blue eyes.......she is almost 10 yrs old. Also.....she is all white.
My opinion is .........weak genes......shouldnt have been bred......My friend has the brother to my dog........and it has one blue eye.........and right now she has been dealing with ulcer in its eye. I have been lucky so far............Also.......my dog is not typical (at least I dont think so) to what a Shitzu is suppose to be like.
She HATES all dogs...........and is deffinitely not a 'lap dog'............

Your dogs are absolutely beautiful!!!! Baby Blue Eyes just like my dog's.
I have to tell you some info on my dog.....her personality.......Im real curious if you have ever dealt with this behavior.
She is deffinitely not a 'lap dog'. From the time she was a pup......its as if she were saying "dont touch me or love on me........only when I say so" (Yes I know she is the Omega).......and other dogs...........forget it........she hates them. She doesnt want to play with them.....barks at them..........and some dogs actually want to kill her. One time a friend of mine (who also has a Shitzu) tried to take her out of house to do her business..........and couldnt get near her)
The only person that has control over her........is the dog groom
