I feed my dog Kibbles and Bits. Is that good for them?

The do such a good job with their packaging and food discription that it always makes me hungry.  It seems safe enough to feed your dogs, but I think a good diet begins with exercising. 

Just dont feed them to many organges, look what happened to me!  Just kidding, thats just one of my favorite jokes :)

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...
Kibbles & Bits is really a horrible food.  The meat is meat by-product which means that you are lucky if you are getting any protein of value from it.  Look for foods for your dogs that contains "human grade meat".  That is a big key!
Next - look for good complex carbohydrates.  Just like for us humans - rice or potatoes fatten us up - look for whole grain brown rice or better yet - sweet potato or yams.
Foods to look for:
Wellness - by Old Mother Hubbard, and is now available at PetSmart or Petco.
Canidae
Wysong

Another option is to cook your dogs food -
brown up some lean ground turkey - or boil some chicken breasts, cook up some sweet potatoes or yams, and if you want to incorporate greens try out food processing some kale or collard greens with carrots.  Do a portion of each - protein carbs and add some of the veggies.
Your dogs will love this - be healthier - and live longer.

i know this is an old thread but I am just joining...
I am a huge fan of home prepared food, but when you recommend it to people, make sure you let them know that calcium must be included in the dogs diet.  Animal Essentials makes a good calcium supplement.  If you do not include calcium, the phosphorus in the meat will be too hard on your dogs kidneys and cause you problems down the road.  Not including it is a common mistake, and allows pet food makers to claim that owners are incapable of providing their dogs adequate nutrition.  A way to avoid this problem entirely is by feeding raw meaty bones, but if that is not your cup of tea, just make sure to add a calcium supplement at the rate suggested by the manufacturer (as long as it is a product designed for the homemade diet). Keep spreading the truth about good nutrition.
