Hi all!  My wife and I are now in our 50's and are down-sizing from a large house with big yard to apartment life. Our present pooch, Ed, is collie/sheppard mix, 85 lbs. and about 12 years old. He is in good health but I know he won't live forever. I was looking for help in picking out a new breed more suited to my smaller and less active lifestyle. Appreciate any pointers!!!

Have you thought about the bulldog breeds (American, French, or English)?  They are smaller dogs and don't require much exercise.  They have super great personalities and make awesome companions.

Good luck!

sounds like a pug would be a great dog for you.  I had a freind who owned one, he was the sweetist little dog ever, didn't require a lot of work, and was very friendly

I think a mini poodle, a pug, a shih tzu, or you could go to your local humane socity and the people could help you find your perfect match. Good luck!

A Bulldog sounds like a great choice for you.  As Nick said, they don't require a lot of excersise but when you want it they certainly can display some energy (for a short burst!!!).  They are generally mellow dogs with a great disposition towards children and other family members (including other pets).
