Introduction
The Korat Cat, also known as the Si-Sawat and the Good Luck Cat, is a type of ancient cat breed which originated from Thailand. This breed was often presented as a gift to bestow good luck and fortune on their owner, and today Korat Cat owners everywhere feel lucky to have this intelligent, loving, and sensitive cat.
The Korat has a beautiful solid silvery coat color and its fur is very short and easy to care for. They have a small to medium size build with heart shaped faces and large round eyes.
Temperament
The Korat Cat is very playful, forms close bonds with one person or pet, and thrives on attention and affection. The Korat has a great need for attention and companionship, and owners who must leave the home often should have another pet in the home (such as another Korat) so that the Korat is not alone.
Korats can be territorial over toys, space, and their favorite companion. They are also very sensitive to loud noises and are not recommended for households with small children.
This breed of feline varies in vocalization characteristics. Some Korats do not meow much at all or have a very soft chirp like meow, and other Korats have been known to meow very loudly when they want attention.
Health
The Korat is a very healthy cat breed and has a lifespan of approximately 15 years.
History
The Korat did not emerge from Thailand until the late 1800’s; until that time they remained in Southeastern Asia, particularly Thailand, where they were given as ‘good luck’ presents to people. Korats were first imported into the United States in 1959, and they have remained a popular breed with cat fanciers to this day.
