Introduction

If you are thinking of adopting a cat or a kitten, here are some pros and cons to each of these age groups.

Kittens

Kittens can easily adjust to any type of environment, but they are extremely active and they need a lot of attention. Pet owners should be prepared to spend plenty of time with their new kitten, and they need to have a household that can accommodate a small Tasmanian devil. Kittens may also blend in better with a household that already has other animals, as they have not yet developed territorial behaviors and they are more interested in playing and socialization.

Since kittens have not yet had many life experiences, their behavior can still easily be modified. Although pet owners should not expect to be able to modify a pet’s personality just because it is a kitten. For example, some kittens are extremely cuddly and social, and they grow into cuddly and social cats. Other kittens like to be by themselves from the start, and they grow into adult cats who aren’t as interested in social interactions with other people or animals.

Adult Cats

Adult cats aren’t as active as kittens and they can play and enjoy themselves without being destructive (unlike extremely playful kittens), but they still need plenty of activities in a home to keep them from getting bored. While adult cats do not require as much attention as a small kitten, they will still need companionship from their new pet owner. Adult cats may or may not blend easily into a home with other pets. It just depends on the cat’s personality and the response of the other pets.

Adult cats may come with some emotional baggage from past experiences, but this does not mean that they do make good adoption candidates. Many adult cats are extremely appreciative for the chance to have a new home and a better life, and they often form a deep and lasting bond with their new human companion.
